The Limes, a six-bedded children’s home in Greater Manchester, has recently achieved an Ofsted rating of Outstanding in all areas – for the tenth year in a row. Operated by Hexagon Care Services, the home specialises in working with children and young people who have been a victim, a perpetrator (or both) of harmful sexualised behaviour.
The HSB service from Hexagon brings together care, education and therapy. The Limes, as well as the three other Hexagon HSB homes, combines an onsite school with dedicated onsite therapy to provide the home’s staff with a complete wraparound service.
In the report, the Ofsted inspectors noted that “children make exceptional progress in all areas of their lives when living in the home. Care planning at the home is meticulous and provides an excellent overview of the care and support children require and how it will be delivered.
“[The manager] provides inspirational leadership and management, placing outcomes for the children at the forefront of practice in the home. The manager is supported by a qualified and experienced deputy manager, who shares the same ambition, ethos and vision for children.
Although the Ofsted report was for the home, the inspectors praised the education achieved in the home’s onsite school. “Education staff work closely with the care and therapy staff, to further promote educational attendance and attainment. Children have done really well in their recent GCSE exams, achieving results in line with their predicted grades.”
Therapy is a key element of the service, something noted by the inspectors. “Each child
has weekly therapy sessions, which enables them to understand and reflect on their individual behaviours, strategies to manage these and their ongoing emotional health.”
Rachel Evans, Hexagon Care’s Service Manager with responsibility for the Limes and the three other specialist HSB homes, said "to achieve 10 years of continuous outstanding ratings is very special".
“The team at the Limes has delivered a decade’s worth of excellence, a phenomenal performance. The inspectors rightly praised the manager, her deputy and the entire team including our therapists and educators.
“Together, they – and the three other Hexagon HSB homes – are delivering significant outcomes to the looked after young people. A parent quoted in the inspection report sums up what we offer; they said their child has made so much progress since he lived at the home, boosting his maturity and confidence.
“This is what we do.”
